It’s no secret that the key to effective weight loss is making positive changes in diet and exercise. However, making those healthy lifestyle changes and improving eating habits can often seem like an insurmountable task. With that in mind, USANA scientists developed The RESET™ weight-management program to help people jumpstart healthy eating habits and begin to make a clean break from unhealthy, high-glycemic foods.*
Five Days to a New You
The 5-Day RESET program is a nutritionally balanced program of macronutrients (high-quality protein, good carbohydrates, and healthy fats) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants). The program is simple—every day you drink three Nutrimeal™ shakes and eat an Oatmeal Raisin Nutrition Bar, a Peanut Butter Crunch Nutrition Bar, a serving of fruit, and a serving of vegetables. You will also take the AM and PM HealthPak™, drink 64–80 ounces of water, and walk for approximately 20–30 minutes (about 3,000 steps) every day.
The 5-Day RESET kit is available in a flavor variety pack—with a mixture of Dutch Chocolate, French Vanilla, and Wild Strawberry Nutrimeal—that includes everything you need:
- 15 single-serving pouches of Nutrimeal
- 5 Peanut Butter Crunch Nutrition Bars
- 5 Oatmeal Raisin Nutrition Bars
- 5 AM/PM HealthPak packets
To help you get the most out of RESET, the kit also comes with a helpful program guide, a motivational magnet, and an exclusive DVD packed with information and featuring a 30-minute fitness program with world-class athletes Jennifer Azzi and Derek Parra.
Control the Cravings
Nutritional science has linked high-glycemic foods to the incidence of obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. All of the USANA® Foods in RESET are guaranteed to be low glycemic. As the foundation of a nutritious diet, low-glycemic foods release energy slowly and do not cause drastic blood glucose spikes and crashes. Therefore, you don’t feel hungry as quickly, so you don’t feel an overwhelming need to eat, which may help you lose weight.† In addition, the fiber content of RESET helps provide a long-lasting sense of fullness to help reduce hunger levels throughout the day.*
Lose the Pounds
The 5-Day RESET program is not about starvation. It is a nutritionally balanced, low-calorie system to help you lose the first few pounds and find the motivation to keep working toward your total weight-loss goal.*
Find the New You
After you have completed the first five days with the 5-Day RESET program, make the new healthy habits part of your lifestyle by choosing the next phase that is right for you.

RESET FAQs
Are there any known side-effects from following the RESET program?
Most people are able to complete the RESET program without difficulty. However, for some this program will represent a significant lifestyle change that may result in some minor side-effects, including headaches, fatigue, lightheadedness and/or gastrointestinal discomfort. It is highly recommended that you consult your physician before beginning RESET if you have specific medical conditions, or if you are taking medications or have special dietary needs or issues.
Headaches and fatigue are common in many weight loss and exercise programs during the first two or three days. This is typically due to adjustments in calories, carbohydrates, blood glucose levels, caffeine intake, or simply the nature of making sudden drastic lifestyle changes. If you experience headaches, fatigue, light-headedness or extreme hunger, please eat an additional serving of fruit or vegetables.
GI distress may be related to an increased intake of fiber and/or soy. The 5-day RESET program provides approximately 30 grams of dietary fiber per day. For some, this may represent a drastic increase in their overall dietary fiber intake. Since fiber requires an adequate intake of water and other fluids to efficiently move through the gastrointestinal system, it will be helpful to increase fluids while on the RESET program. Also, any undesired effects of soy may be resolved by using an over-the-counter product (such as Beano) that is designed to help with the digestion of beans and legumes.
If any side-effects do not disappear within 24 hours, the program should be discontinued and a physician or health care specialist should be consulted before continuing the program. Some people may need to skip the RESET phase altogether and begin directly at Phase 1 or Phase 2.
The RESET program may not be appropriate for everyone. If you have concerns about following this program, have special dietary needs, are taking medications or have specific medical conditions, you should consult with your physician or other healthcare specialist before beginning the RESET program.
Can I drink coffee or tea during RESET?
Yes, as long as it does not contribute additional calories (meaning no sugar or cream) and you still drink the recommended amount of water.
Can I follow the RESET program if I have a health condition or am using medication(s)?
If you currently have a health condition or use prescription medication, please consult with a physician or health care specialist to determine if the RESET program is appropriate.
Can I mix the shakes with skim milk or soy milk instead of water?
While on the RESET program, we recommend mixing the shakes only with water. This is particularly important for those who are trying to lose weight, since using skim milk or soy milk will increase the caloric level by 250-300 calories a day. If you prefer to use soy milk, try to use a brand with a minimal amount of added sugar (120 calories per cup or less).
Do USANA products contain any potential allergens?
The following chart (last updated December 2010) provides an overview of potential common allergens in USANA products: USANA Allergen Chart. For the most up-to-date and accurate information, please refer to product labels.
Can children follow the RESET program?
The caloric level of the RESET program is not sufficient to support normal growth and development in children. In addition, the fiber content may be too high for many children to tolerate. As such, children under the age of 18 should not participate in the 5-day RESET program except at the request of a doctor and/or dietician.
Can diabetics follow the RESET program?
If you have diabetes, please consult with a doctor or health care specialist to determine if the RESET program is appropriate for you. Additionally, please keep in mind that these are food products and they should be treated like any other healthy food. In general, most diabetics will be able to follow the RESET program (depending on how well they are currently managing their diabetes). In some cases it may be necessary to monitor blood glucose levels more regularly, especially if there is a significant change in carbohydrate intake.
Can pregnant and/or lactating women participate in the RESET program?
The caloric level of the RESET program is not sufficient to support normal fetal growth and development during pregnancy or breast milk production in lactating women. As such, the program should not be used unless under the guidance of a doctor or other healthcare professional.
Do I need to exercise during the RESET program?
Regular exercise is a critical part of a healthy lifestyle. We recommend using the 5-day RESET program to commit to both an improved diet and a regular exercise routine. Regular exercise will help individuals reach weight loss goals more quickly, and it is generally the most important factor in long-term weight management. Regular exercise and an active lifestyle provide numerous health benefits both physically and mentally. If you are not already participating in an exercise regmien, we recommend starting gradually – for example, by taking a 25-30 minute walk during each day of the RESET program.
How much fiber is in the 5-day RESET program?
The USANA products included in the RESET program provide approximately 30 grams of dietary fiber per day. (This does not include potential fiber intake from additional fruits and vegetables.) If this number seems high, remember that fiber is a crucial part of a healthy diet, and a high intake of dietary fiber has many health-related benefits (including a decreased risk of certain diseases). In addition, dietary fiber promotes satiety, which is especially important while dieting.
The current recommendation for fiber intake ranges from 21-38 grams of dietary fiber per day for adults, depending on age and gender
How much weight can I expect to lose while on the RESET program?
The average is 5lbs. Actual weight loss during the 5-day RESET program will vary by individual. Many factors affect weight loss, including initial weight, body type, activity level, water retention, lean muscle mass, and level of adherence to the program. In addition, medical conditions, medications, and hormonal cycles can also impact the total amount of weight lost.
The RESET program is designed to help individuals focus on changing unhealthy eating habits and improving overall lifestyle. These long-term changes are the best way to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
How often can I repeat the RESET program?
The RESET program is designed to help individuals fix unhealthy habits. It will not instantly reverse the effects of long-term unhealthy dietary choices and inactivity. However, if followed correctly, the RESET program can help you take control over your lifestyle by helping to change poor dietary habits, reduce carbohydrate cravings, improve exercise habits, and gain motivation from some initial weight loss. However, you must be committed to maintain healthy habits after the initial 5-day program. Two options are available after completing the 5-day program. You will be responsible for choosing option 1 or 2, depending on your weight goals. If you follow the program as outlined, there is no need to repeat the 5-day program except as an occasional recommitment during a slump. The bottom line: if you continue to do what you have always done, you will likely remain where you are now.

Is the caloric level of the RESET program appropriate for everyone, regardless of weight or activity level?
It’s about 1500 calories. The caloric level of the RESET program may not be sufficient for those who are very active or those who exercise rigorously. Adding fruit or milk to the shakes will safely increase the caloric level. An additional snack or small meal may also be used, if necessary, to maintain normal energy levels. NEVER GO HUNGRY.
What are appropriate meals while on the RESET program?
“Okay wait- -I thought you could only eat what’s in the RESET kit for meals during the RESET program,” you say. The RESET “program” is long-term, after the 5-day RESET cleanse. So after the 5-day cleanse everybody wants to know what to eat, correct? You “can” continue the shakes for your meals but at some point, you’re going to want to eat and chew on something.
Why do you recommend drinking 8-10 glasses of water each day while following the 5-day RESET?
The 5-day RESET provides approximately 30 grams of dietary fiber each day. Fiber requires an adequate intake of water and other fluids to move the fiber through the gastrointestinal system efficiently. Failure to drink enough water may lead to gastrointestinal discomfort.
Do USANA Food products, like the Nutrimeal shakes in the RESET kit, contain refined sugars?
Certain USANA Food products contain refined sugars (carbohydrates), including fructose. Sugars and other carbohydrates, proteins, and fats are a key part of the overall macronutrient balance of USANA Food products. While excess sugars – or excesses of any macronutrient – can represent a potential health concern, appropriate amounts of carbohydrates are an important part of a mixed and varied diet. To put the amount of sugar in the Nutrimeals into perspective, one small apple (3 ounces) contains approximately 23 grams of carbohydrates, more than half of which is simple sugar (primarily fructose). This is a similar sugar distribution to Nutrimeal, but in addition to 17 grams of sugar, Nutrimeal also provides 8 grams of fiber, 15 grams of complete protein, 7-8 grams of healthy fat, and a good vitamin/mineral mix. To summarize, the refined sugar content of a serving of Nutrimeal is not drastically different from that of many fruits. It is, however, very different from the refined sugar content of something like a 44-ounce soda (140 grams of sucrose or high-fructose corn syrup, including ~70 grams of fructose). As always, USANA scientists advocate variety and moderation in dietary choices. A healthy diet needs to include a moderate intake of a variety of simple sugars, other carbohydrates, fat, protein, fiber, water, and micronutrients.
